Skins capped at 0.08: Minimal Wear costs more than Factory New
Usually a Factory New skin costs more than the same skin slightly worn (Minimal Wear). On some skins it's the other way around, almost every time. It's not a pricing error: it's about rarity.
The short answer: the Minimal Wear version is rarer
Some skins can't have a float above 0.08: that's the case for Doppler, Fade, Marble Fade and many Case Hardened knives, for example. Their Minimal Wear version only exists between 0.07 and 0.08, a tiny range, while their Factory New version covers 0.00 to 0.07.
Result, measured on our prices of October 26, 2026: the Minimal Wear version is more expensive than Factory New on 503 of 521 capped skins (more than 96%). On skins with a normal float range, that's the case for only 103 of 3,194 skins (3%).
How we measured it
- The prices: for each skin, the day's lowest price, fees included, across all the marketplaces FragPrice tracks, in Factory New and in Minimal Wear.
- Capped skins: those whose maximum float is 0.08 according to the skin's official description.
- The comparison: we count the skins whose Minimal Wear version costs more than Factory New, first among capped skins, then among skins whose float goes higher. The normal, StatTrak™ and Souvenir versions of a skin each count separately, and a skin is only counted if it has a price in both wears.
This count is recalculated on every site update: the current figure is shown on the relevant skin pages.
The results
| Group of skins | Skins compared | Minimal Wear pricier than Factory New |
|---|---|---|
| Float capped at 0.08 (Doppler, Fade, Case Hardened knives…) | 521 | 503 (96.5%) |
| Normal float range | 3,194 | 103 (3.2%) |
Example: on the Glock-18 | Fade, Minimal Wear cost about 46% more than Factory New on October 26, 2026.
What it means for you
- If you just want the skin: buy Factory New. It's cheaper, and at 0.07 or 0.08 the difference in wear is invisible in game.
- If you're selling a capped Minimal Wear copy: don't let it go at the Factory New price. Its rarity is worth something.
- On these skins, our Factory New and Minimal Wear pages show a "Float capped at 0.08" note with that skin's gap.
FAQ
Does that mean the Minimal Wear skin looks better?
No. At a float of 0.07 or 0.08, wear is practically invisible. The price comes purely from how rare that version is.
Why do some skins have a capped float?
The game gives each finish a possible float range. For Doppler, Fade or Case Hardened knives, that range stops at 0.08: these skins only exist in Factory New and Minimal Wear.
Does the figure change?
Yes, it follows prices. We recalculate it on every site update, and the note on the skin pages shows the current count.
